The Crown at Hopton is the ideal base from which to enjoy glorious countryside. We are situated in Cleobury Mortimer - (pronounced Clibbery) The name derives from the great Norman family of Mortimer established here in 1086. It is believed to be the birthplace in the 14th century, of William Langland, the author of 'Piers Plowman'. There is a commemorative window in the local church in his honour. John Betjeman described this South Shropshire town as ' A long airy curving street of brick Georgian houses and shops interspersed with genuine half-timber, the Rea brook making a splash at the bottom of the hill. The whole church seems to have slipped out of shape'.
